The original lineup centered around Tim Eiermann and Joe Proell, with Oliver Roder joining shortly afterward. The band drew heavy influence from early Impetigo and Xysma while developing a slower, filthier, and more grotesque interpretation of grindcore that later became associated with pornogrind.

The earliest Gut recordings were largely improvised and heavily rooted in underground tape-trading culture. By 1992 the band had already entered a prolific period that produced several 7-inch EPs and split releases which would later form the backbone of The Singles Collection.

The band’s first major era lasted from 1991 through 1995 and culminated with the full-length album Odour of Torture. After dissolving in the mid-1990s, Gut later reunited during the mid-2000s comeback period that produced The Cumback 2006 ( Necroharmonic ) and several additional split releases and collaborations.

The reunion era restored much of the original lineup and reintroduced the band to underground audiences through new recordings, collaborations, and live activity tied to the 2006 comeback cycle.

The original foundation of The Singles Collection comes from seven key EP and split releases issued between 1992 and 1995.

Spermany’s Most Wanted EP (1992)

Released on Malodorous Mangled Innards Records, this early release captures the primitive and chaotic beginning of Gut’s sound. Several tracks on the compilation are indexed differently from the original EP, compressing portions of the tracklist together.

Pussyfied / Assyfied EP (1995)

This EP represents a more developed and structured phase of the band while still retaining the raw underground production and horror-film atmosphere that defined Gut’s style.

Hyper-Intestinal Vulva Desecration EP (1994)

This is the central Necroharmonic-related Gut release and one of the most important pieces of the band’s discography. Issued by Necroharmonic in 1994, the EP featured six Gut tracks and artwork associated with the Impetigo visual aesthetic. Necroharmonic still references this release in later promotional material as part of the early German goregrind explosion.

Gut / Morphea Split EP (1994)

This split captured Gut during the peak of the European underground split-EP era. The tracks “Sperminator” and “Intestinal Cumshot” later became part of The Singles Collection sequence.

Split with Gore Beyond Necropsy (1994)

This release linked Gut with the Japanese goregrind underground and further expanded the band’s international cult status during the 1990s tape-trading era.

Split with Brain Damage (1994)

Issued through Regurgitated Semen Records, this split continued the band’s streak of short-form underground releases that circulated heavily among collectors.

Split with Retaliation (1994)

Another Regurgitated Semen Records release, this split further solidified Gut’s reputation within the underground goregrind network during the mid-1990s.

Dead Split EP

These additional tracks were recorded live in 1994 and significantly expand the historical scope of the release.

The 2007 Necroharmonic edition effectively adds an eighth archival source by incorporating the Gut material from the split with Dead....but 20 years later here we have the repress!

Necroharmonic release

Sleazy 022
