Grotesque " Ripped From The Cross "  T-shirt 

Grotesque was an early Swedish extreme metal band formed in Gothenburg in 1988, playing a crucial role in the transition between thrash metal and the emerging death metal sound in Scandinavia. The band featured musicians who would later become highly influential, most notably Tomas Lindberg, who went on to front At the Gates. Grotesque combined aggressive thrash elements with darker, more chaotic riffs and morbid themes, helping to shape the early identity of Swedish death metal while also hinting at the melodic direction that would later define the Gothenburg scene. Their recordings, including the well-known track “Ripped from the Cross,” circulated through the underground tape-trading network and gained a cult following despite the band’s short lifespan. Grotesque disbanded around 1990, but their legacy remains significant, as they bridged the gap between the raw underground beginnings of extreme metal in Sweden and the more developed death metal movement that followed.
